Iya Thera Ajelu Opayemi · Soul Tribe Health
Death Doula & End-of-Life Spiritual Support rooted in West African and North American Indigenous teachings, shamanic ceremony, plant medicine, and unconditional presence — for the dying and for those who love them.
Who I Am
I am Iya Thera Ajelu Opayemi — and I have spent years holding space for individuals and families navigating the most profound passages of human life: illness, dying, death, grief, and rebirth.
My work lives at the intersection of ancient wisdom and modern healing — where the spiritual and the practical meet, where grief is held with ceremony, and where death is understood not as an ending, but as a sacred crossing.
Every offering I bring is rooted in unconditional love, trauma-informed care, and deep reverence for the ancestral wisdom traditions I have been trained and initiated in.
"Death is not an ending. It is a sacred crossing — and no one should walk it alone."— Iya Thera, Soul Tribe Health
The Container of Care
Sessions are structured around 4-hour days, divided between the dying person and family members based on what is most needed. The dying always receive priority. All religious practices, spiritual beliefs, and cultural traditions are fully honoured.

Sacred Teaching
Rooted in West African and Indigenous plant medicine traditions, this teaching is offered to every family regardless of faith or cultural background. It is a hands-on, embodied act of love — preparing a sacred wash using specific plants and conscious intentions to cleanse and honour the body of the dying or recently passed. Tending to the sacred vessel is one of the most loving acts a family can offer, and it belongs to everyone.

How This Work Is Held
No two families, no two deaths, and no two days are the same. Some days the dying person needs the most support. Other days a family member in grief needs to be held. Some days we sit in ceremony. Other days we sit together in silence.
What remains constant is the depth of presence, the quality of care, and the commitment to ensuring that this crossing — for the one leaving and those remaining — is held with as much dignity, love, and spiritual support as possible.
This container is shaped around you, your faith, and what brings you comfort and meaning.
